Crew Inquiries > F/O A.L."Jock" Spence DFC

Hello...I am trying to get in touch with anyone who knew or flew with my uncle....I see his photo in "airfield activity" where he is mistakenly called "Jack" Spence. (playing the piano))..

He died several years ago, and I would appreciate learning more about his wartime experiences.

Thanks in advance for any help.....Joel Saunders

Joel,

My name is Jeff Prodahl. My Grandfather is DFC F.O Edward Donald Wickens. I believe my grandfather was the navigator on your uncles crew. I have a picture of your uncle after they completed their last mission hanging in my office. My Grandfather is still alive and living a veterans home in Edmonton, Ab.
If you have any crew pictures or would be willing to share post war history of your Uncle I would love to share it with my grandfather.

Best regards,

Jeff Prodahl

Dear Joel, I have some information on your late Uncle. He flew with my late husbands uncle that also received a DFC. I have a letter from Jock dated 1944 to Albert Illingworths parents thanking them for Al's bravery. Albert was shot in the leg on one of their missions. I believe they crash landed in Eastbourne. I also have some signed music from Jock that he sent to Al as a thank you. I have photos.
Kindest regards,
Debbie Blackford
