P/O Walter Winning, crew 35 (6 missions)
Piloted by P/O Walter Winning Crew 35 was flying in a Halifax V, serial # LK-990, coded WL-X. They FTR from a mission to Leverkusen on the night of 19/20 Nov. 1943. P/O Winning died of injuries, the rest of the crew became P.O.W.
Walter was from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, an only child as his father had died earlier. Walter's mother upon hearing of his death inquired with her Member of Parliament to look into his fate, as the other crew members were still alive. She would find out that Walter had died in the POW camp hospital.
Prior to going Overseas Walter became engaged to Doris Harris
