Flak Damage - Crew 28
L to R
F/Sgt. John “Sharpy” Keane, F/O Bill Roberts, Sgt Howard O’Gorman
Battered and with one propeller useless, a Halifax of the RCAF Bomber Group’s Bluenose squadron landed safely back at its home aerodrome after the raid on Leipzig recently, thanks to the skill of the pilot and the good work of his crew. With one propeller useless, the 25 year old skipper, F/Sgt. John “Sharpy” Keane, of Orono, Ont. (left) did what his crew mates describe as a “wizard job” in getting them back.
Sgt Howard O’Gorman, of Sudbury , Ontario., the navigator (right) inspects the damage while F/O Bill Roberts, of Salford , Ont., bomb aimer, looks on. A huge hole can be seen in the fuselage of the aircraft directly above the starboard wing.
