Flak Damage Crew 43
L to R
F/O F. Huntley, P/O Pierre Escaravage
“Mines were laid in enemy waters last night”, is about all the recognition that bomber crews receive in the official communiqués after some of the most hazardous operational sorties of the war. Flying Officer Frank Huntley (Left) of Toronto, Ont. and Pilot Officer Pierre Escaravage (Right) of Winnipeg, Man. Check over flak damage resulting from a recent mine-laying trip.
Forced by icing of their engines to fly very low over the target area, they were “hosed” by enemy flak. One big chunk ripped through the camera and tore a hole in P/O Huntley’s flying suit, grazing his leg. The Pilot, P/O Escaravage dug another piece out of the port inner engine. With their crew, the pair have done about a dozen bombing operations over Germany, including four trips to Berlin.
