P/O S. D. “Red” Jenkins adjusts Navigators Curtian, crew 30
One of the problems of night bombing operations is to maintain a completely blacked-out aircraft while still permitting the bomber’s navigator sufficient light to work over his charts and maps. Solution lies in the use of heavy black out curtains that screen the navigator’s compartment from the others. Here, P/O S. D. “Red” Jenkins, newly commissioned member of the RCAF Bomber Group’s Bluenose Squadron adjusts his curtains prior to take-off. His home is at Mt. Herbert, P.E.I.
Crew 30 Piloted by S/Ldr. F/O Frank Carter “FTR” from an “Op” to Berlin 15/16 Feb. 1944 all were killed, including P/O S.D. Jenkins.
